President Joe Biden will deliver his first State of the Union address on March 1, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent the president a formal invitation to speak to Congress and the American public one year into his term.

It will mark the latest any president has delivered a State of the Union address. The speech is normally timed for January, and occasionally for February. The delay is driven in part by a busy legislative calendar, a winter spike in COVID-19 cases from the more transmissible omicron variant and the upcoming Winter Olympics, which ties up broadcast network time.

OPERATIONAL DETAILS
The Associated Press will be operational with stand-up positions at the U.S. Capitol, a terrace overlooking Capitol Hill and at the White House North Lawn.

ACCREDITATION
Capitol Hill hard pass is required to access the stand-up positions inside the Capitol.

For members of the media without a Capitol Hill hard pass we will offer a terrace overlooking the U.S. Capitol. No credentials are required to access the terrace.

U.S. Secret Service clearance is required to access the White House North Lawn. The Associated Press can assist with the process.
