The 20th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks will be commemorated in New York City, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and were conducted by Al Qaeda militants who hijacked passenger planes and launched them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This triggered the bombing of Afghanistan which put an end to the Taliban regime in 2001. After a 20-year war and the pull out of foreign forces in August 2021, Afghanistan finds itself once again under the rule of the Taliban.
