VATICAN EASTER
ROME, ITALY | 10-12 APRIL 2020
As Christians around the world prepare to mark Easter amid the coronavirus pandemic, Pope Francis is set to lead scaled-back celebrations at the Vatican.
On 10 April, the pontiff celebrates Good Friday Mass, then leads the Via Crucis – or Way of the Cross – ceremony in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, in place of its traditional venue at the Colosseum in Rome.
On 12 April, Pope Francis celebrates Easter Sunday Mass in the basilica, then delivers the "Urbi et Orbi" ("to the city and the world") message to a St. Peter’s Square empty of the faithful, who will be able to watch from their homes via livestream.
