Senate Impeachment Trial

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES

The impeachment trial of US president Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress is expected to start in the Senate. The Republican-controlled Senate shows little sign of finding President Trump guilty. A two-thirds majority in the 100-member chamber would be needed to convict Trump. A trial could involve testimony from witnesses and a schedule in which proceedings occur six days a week for as many as six weeks.
