The year-long trade dispute between the United States and China is set to escalate. The US government has already filed plans to raise tariffs on Chinese imports from 10% to 25%. The tariff hike on Chinese goods would take effect at 04:01 GMT Friday.

Negotiations between the US and China are scheduled to continue in Washington on Thursday, and will include China's top trade official. Investors have been anticipating a deal throughout this year but the latest tough talk is raising anxiety on Wall Street.
