200 MISSING AFTER BRAZIL DAM COLLAPSE
RIO DE JANEIRO & BRUMADINHO, BRAZIL | 25 JANUARY

A mining dam has collapsed in southeastern Brazil, inundating a nearby community in an enormous swath of reddish brown liquid waste and leaving an estimated 200 missing.

Brazilian mining company Vale SA said in a statement that the flow reached the community of Vila Ferteco and an administrative office, where employees were present, which “indicated the possibility of victims.”

The Associated Press is now operational from the panoramic glass studio at AP's Rio bureau.

Depending on affiliate interest, AP will set up live positions in Brumadinho, 60km south west from Belo Horizonte (and 450km north of Rio de Janeiro)
