The US, UK and France have struck Syria bombing three government sites in an early morning operation targeting alleged chemical weapons facilities.

The move is a response to a suspected chemical attack on the town of Douma last week, which killed dozens.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he "condemns the attack in the most serious way".

The capital Damascus was hit, as well as two locations near the city of Homs, according to the Pentagon.
