ITALIAN GOVERNMENT CONSULTATIONS ROME, ITALY 5 APRIL 2018 Italian President Sergio Mattarella is holding talks with the country's top political officials and party representatives on forming a new cabinet this week based on the fragmented outcome of the March 4 general elections. Today Mattarella is meeting with the heads of the largest political groupings including the center-left Democratic Party (PD), the Forza Italia party founded by former premier Silvio Berlusconi and the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S). The Italian constitution assigns the right of appointing a new prime minister to the President.
