IOC TO HOST "NORTH AND SOUTH KOREAN OLYMPIC PARTICIPATION MEETING"
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND
20 JANUARY 2018

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will host talks on 20 January at its headquarters in Lausanne to decide upon the details of North Korea’s participation at the Winter Olympics.

Representatives of North and South Korea have engaged in a series of encounter ahead of Saturday's meeting at the IOC in Lausanne to discuss and decide upon various elements of the North's participation in the upcoming winter games. During the preparatory meetings, the two Koreas discussed abandoning their individual flags to march under a unified flag depicting the north Korean Peninsula at the opening ceremony on 9 February, as well as fielding a joint women's ice hockey team. North Korea has also offered to send 230 members of its all-female cheerleading squad to the Games in Pyeongchang.

Saturday's meeting will be chaired by the IOC President and will bring together delegations from the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee, National Olympic Committees of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as high-ranking government officials and the IOC Members from both countries.
