AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS 54TH PARTY CONFERENCE
GAUTENG, SOUTH AFRICA
16-20 DECEMBER 2017

The African National Congress is to hold its Party Conference in Johannesburg 16-20 December. It is a crucial meeting marking the end of term of current controversial and scandal ridden President Jacob Zuma. The Party is desperately in need of renovation after 23 years in power and recent numerous corruption scandals.

It appears the current Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has gained a lead in the race to become the new leader of the party.

ANC party branches throughout South Africa have to chose between Ramaphosa and his main rival Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

Dlamini-Zuma is a prominent politician-having held Ministerial Posts and having been Chariperson of the African Union-and is the ex-wife of Jacob Zuma.
The winner will be well placed to become the country's new president in 2019 as precedent has the leader of the ANC automatically becoming the party's candidate for the presidency of the country.

Ramaphosa has lately been highly critical of the state of corruption which has eroded South African politics. Mrs Dlamini – Zuma is endorsed by her ex husband.
