The Arab League will hold an emergency meeting at its Cairo headquarters on Thursday 27 July as tensions soar following clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the West Bank and in Jerusalem that left three Palestinians dead.

Muslims were angered after Israeli authorities set up metal detectors at the entrance to a Jerusalem holy site, revered by both Muslims and Jews, after three Arab attackers shot dead two policemen in the area.

Israel's security cabinet is boosting forces until it implements unspecified "sophisticated technology" which it says will replace the metal detectors.
