UN SECURITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The UN General Assembly's 193 member states will vote on Friday, June 2nd to elect five non-permanent members to the UN's most powerful body.
Poland, Peru, Kuwait, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea are currently running for seats on this council.
Along with these regular elections, a by-election for a sixth seat currently held by Italy will also take place. Italy will relinquish this seat as part of a term splitting agreement with the Netherlands.
The elected members will serve on the Security Council until December 2018.
