US President Donald Trump is facing increasing scrutiny over his firing of FBI Director James Comey, with calls for an independent commission to investigate the circumstances.

The White House has denied reports that Trump pressed Comey to drop an investigation into National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

In a bizarre twist, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to turn over to Congress records of Trump's discussions with Russian diplomats, that according to some reports contained classified information.
