Productiehuis

The Menin Gate Lions will be officially unveiled and inaugurated during a special Last Post ceremony on Monday 24th April 8 PM CET (being Tuesday 25th April 4 AM AEST).

The Menin Lions are national treasuries of Australia and Belgium. The Menin Lions had originally stood on plinths on either side of the Menin Gate at Ypres/Ieper until they were donated to the Australian War Museum in 1936. The Australian War Memorial is loaning the lions back to their original home. Their temporarily return is part of 100th anniversary WW1 commemorations and they will remain at Menin Gate until 11 November 2017. The names of 6,191 Australians are among the 54,000 British and Dominion soldiers listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, commemorating those who died in the fighting in Flanders and have no known grave.

The lions remain covered in readiness for the big unveiling and dedication ceremony on April 24.
