NATO DEFENCE MINISTERS MEETINGS
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
15-16 FEBRUARY 2017

North Atlantic Council (NAC) Defence Ministers will hold meetings at NATO Headquarters on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 February 2017.

In the run-up to the Defence Ministers meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US President Donald J. Trump have held a phone conversation to discuss current NATO-related issues such as the fight against terrorism, the increase in violence in eastern Ukraine and how to ensure that NATO members assume their share of financial responsibilities in terms of defense spending.

Both leaders agreed to discuss these issues further at the NATO Summit in Brussels. During the two-day meeting Stoltenberg also wants to finalize the Black Sea initiative which is designed to strengthen NATO’s presence in the area. Russia have voiced strong concern about the prospect of increased NATO activity in the region.

The meetings will be chaired by the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg.
