ICELAND PARLMENTARY ELECTIONS
REYKJAVÍK, ICELAND
30 OCTOBER 2016

This Saturday Iceland holds its parliamentary elections . The early election was triggered by a political crisis after prime minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson stepped aside when the Panama Papers revealed his family was connected to wealthy offshore funds.

It is possible that the country will become the first nation to vote for the Pirates Party which have been running neck to neck in the polls with the major Independence party.

The hacker-led movement focuses on privacy rights and freedom of expression in the digital age. Born a decade ago in Sweden, the Pirates have dozens of chapters worldwide. Iceland’s Pirates were the first in the world voted into a national legislature.
