24.10.2016Poland: Women on strike against new abortion law *** ARCHIVE

TVN News & Services Agency

Polish women are continuing their protest against abortion law and violence against women. The nationwide strike is organised on the anniversary of the strike of 1975 in Iceland when 90% of women refused to work that was an inspiration for this activity. Participants of the strike will not go to work or school on Monday, and those women who do not work will refrain from domestic chores. The first strike, organised at the beggining of October, was organised as a protest against a proposed new law that would criminalise nearly all abortions. The bill was rejected by the Parliament but rulling Law and Justice party is planning to propose their own conservative abortion bill.
