MEETING ANTI ISLAMIC STATE COALITION

Defense ministers from the international coalition fighting Isil in Mosul and elsewhere in Iraq and Syria will meet in Paris on Oct. 25, France said last week.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter will be among 12 ministers who will assess progress made in the battle to dislodge ISIS fighters from Iraq's second-biggest city of Mosul, which Iraqi forces launched Monday, as well as launching an attack on Raqqa, the de facto capital of Isil.

Ashton Carter has called for a simultaneous attack on Isil's de facto capital of Raqqa in Syria, alongside the push to retake Mosul.

“We want to see an isolation operation begin around Raqqa as soon as possible,” Mr Carter said during a visit to the Iraqi city of Erbil to assess the Mosul offensive close at hand.

“We are working with our partners there [in Syria] to do just that …There will be some simultaneity to these two operations.”

The Eurovision is looking into offering facilities at the meeting site if there is enough interest.
