TVN News & Services Agency

Women all over Poland are joining national strike. Participants of the strike will not go to work or school on Monday, and those women who do not work will refrain from domestic chores. A march will be held at 3:30 pm in Warsaw.
The inspiration was a strike of in 1975, when 90% of Iceland’s women refused to work.

The strike was organised as a protest against a proposed new law that would criminalise nearly all abortions. Current abortion laws in Poland only allow the procedure in cases of foetal abnormality, rape and incest or if there is a risk to the health of the mother. The new law, that is now beging discussed in the parliament, could introduce even thougher rules. If passed, the legislation would introduce jail sentences of up to five years for causing "the death of a conceived child".
