JORDANIAN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

General elections will be held in Jordan on 20 September 2016. Parliament was dissolved by king Abdullah II on 29 May after the resignation of Abdullah Ensour prime minister between October 2012 and May 2016.

It will be the first elections to be held under a form of proportional representation following electoral reforms announced in 2015.

The reforms led to opposition parties deciding to contest this election, including the Islamic Action Front, who boycotted multiple previous elections including the two immediately preceding this one. The Islamic Action Front, represents many disenfranchised Jordanians of Palestinian origin.

A local arm of the Muslim Brotherhood one of the oldest and most potent political forces in the Middle East is expected to emerge as the largest single party from the general elections in Jordan on September 20th .
