A meeting of European socialist leaders is scheduled to take place in Paris. According to observers, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is planning to forge an alliance with the leaders of southeastern Europe in order to bolster Greece’s bid for a debt restructuring. He is expected to explore the prospects for such an alliance at the Paris summit, especially with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and French President François Hollande.
The Greek Prime Minister has also arranged a subsequent meeting in Athens, on 9 September to further explore the prospect of forming a southeastern European alliance.
