The release of Turkish prisoners has started in several prisons across the country.
The decision was taken by Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ to release 38,000 people from Turkish prisons, which is valid for inmates who have two years or less to serve and they will be kept under supervision. The regulation refers to crimes that were committed before the July 15 coup attempt, and does not include people convicted for murder, domestic violence, sexual abuse, terrorism or crimes against the state. It is likely that these releases will make room for the alleged coup plotters who face heavy jail sentences.
