The Syrian government and the Lebanese Shia Hezbollah movement have deployed more than 3,000 additional fighters in order to reverse rebel gains in the city of Aleppo. This comes after rebels broke through the government siege two days earlier. Hundreds of opposition fighters have also arrived in Aleppo from neighbouring province of Idlib to help in the battles.
Hezbollah's fighters have provided crucial support to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's army.
