08.08.2016Bulgaria: Charlie Hebdo attacker's relative arrested en route to Syria *** ARCHIVE

IHA News Agency

Mourad Hamyd, brother-in-law of Cherif Kouachi, who was behind the January 2015 satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo attack, has been arrested in Bulgaria after trying to get to Syria.
In the aftermath of the terror attack, Hamyd was wrongly identified on social media as being one of the three Charlie Hebdo killers. He was held and questioned for 48 hours before being released without charge.
The 20-year-old student was first detained in Turkey last month on suspicion of seeking to enter Syria, then expelled to neighbouring Bulgaria.
