France’s government said that it was ordering an inquiry into allegations of lax security the night of the Bastille Day attack in Nice. Much of the haggling has focused on securtiy levels, with the head of the regional authorities in the southern Nice area accusing the government of “lying” about the number of officers deployed along the seafront. Meanwhile the local authorities in Nice have refused a request by French anti-terror police to destroy CCTV images of last week's lorry attack. This is the latest evidence of a growing dispute between the local and national authorities in the wake of the attack.
