FOREIGN AFFAIRS COUNCIL
LUXEMBOURG, LUXEMBOURG

The Foreign Affairs Council will take place in Luxembourg on 20 June 2016.

The Council will discuss the integrated EU policy for the Arctic and will adopt conclusions.

Ministers will then review the situation in the Sahel and take stock of the EU comprehensive approach to security and development in the region. The High Representative will brief ministers on the EU-G5 Sahel ministerial meeting, which will take place in Brussels on 17 June. The Council is expected to adopt conclusions.

The Council will also address the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Over lunch, ministers will discuss the Middle East peace process, as a follow up to the Paris conference held on 3 June.

The Council may formally adopt the decision extending by one year the mandate of EU NAVFOR Med operation Sophia and adding two supporting tasks: training the Libyan coastguard and navy and contributing to the implementation of the UN arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya.
