A high-level signing ceremony, convened by the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, is to take place in New York. It is a first step in implementing the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in France on 12 December 2015. The agreement will then be open for signature in New York until 17 April 2017.

Officials in charge of global climate negotiations say between 80 and 100 countries are expected to sign the landmark agreement to tackle climate change reached in Paris in December at a ceremony at U.N. headquarters on April 22.

More than 30 heads of state and government have already said they will attend signing event.

22ND APRIL 2016

The historic Paris Agreement on climate change, which was adopted at the COP21 summit in December, will be signed at the United Nations in New York on Friday April 22nd 2016.

Numerous heads of state and other high level representatives are expected to attend the event, which will be followed by a meeting on implementation of the accord.

The agreement will come into force once 55 countries, contributing at least 55% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, sign the accord. Two of the biggest polluters, the United States and China, have committed to signing the deal.

EUROVISION Americas will provide multiple live stand-up positions outside the United Nations with a direct view of the building. In addition, the Eurovision studio inside the United Nations, with a live backdrop of the UN forecourt and array of flags, will be available for remote interviewing of high-level dignitaries.
