President Obama is planning a trip to Cuba some time next month, marking the first time in more than 80 years a sitting U.S. president will visit the country, according to sources with knowledge of the plan.

President Barack Obama will pay a historic visit to Cuba on March 21-22, becoming the first president to set foot on the island in nearly seven decades.
The brief visit in mid-March will mark a watershed moment for relations between the U.S. and Cuba, a communist nation estranged from the U.S. for half a century until Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro moved to re-launch more than a year ago.

Since then, the nations have reopened embassies in Washington and Havana and moved to restore commercial air travel, with a presidential visit seen as a key next step toward bridging the divide.

HAVANA, CUBA 20-23 MARCH 2016 US President Barack Obama will make an official visit to Cuba on March 21st and 22nd. Obama will be the first sitting United States President in nearly 90 years to visit the island. President Obama's historic visit will include a meeting with President Raúl Castro and hold talks with political dissidents.
