An explosion in the Turkish capital, Ankara, has killed at least 28 people, leaving more than 61 others injured, according to Turkish authorities.

Officials reportedly said the explosion was caused by a car bomb detonated as military buses were passing in an area close to the parliament and Turkey's military headquarters. Recently Turkey has been hit hard by terrorist attacks, including a suicide bomb that killed ten people in Istanbul last October 2015 and two explosions where more than 90 people were killed during a peaceful demonstration in the capital.

Turkey has been on high alert facing security threats from different groups, including IS and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
