Former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes is moving to Standard Liege. The Spanish goalkeeper has agreed an escape route out of Manchester United on loan until the end of the season.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper signed an 18-month contract at Old Trafford a year ago but has been frozen out following a dispute with manager Louis van Gaal.

Valdes made just two first-team appearances last season before he was omitted from the summer tour of America, and is no longer allowed to train with the first-team squad at Carrington.

The 33-year-old is desperate to play again having previously turned down interest from Turkey and Mexico. He remains one of the most decorated keepers in the game, having won the World Cup and European Championships with Spain, and the Champions League three times at Barcelona.

Valdes is expected to arrive in Belgium on Friday 22nd January.
