Gunmen armed with automatic weapons have fired on police in the French city of Marseille, where the country’s Prime Minister was due to visit later today.

Witnesses said the gunmen fired at the edge of the La Castellane estate, a housing project known for being a drug trafficking hotspot. No injuries were immediately reported.

Globecast can provide facilities to broadcasters on site at the Estate where heavily armed riot police have blocked off the estate. Police say the event is not terror related.
