Four people are in detention following raids across Belgium. Federal public prosecutor says that 22 premises were raided as part of an operation against terrorism.

House searches were carried out in Maasmechelen (2), Maaseik (11), Kinrooi (1), Genk (1) and Houthalen-Helchteren (2) in Limburg Province, in Antwerp (4) and in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek in Brussels (1).

Police did not find any arms, explosives or ammunition. Four people have been detained and will appear before a judge in the course of the day.

The raids were carried out as part of an investigation centring on people from Belgium with plans to travel to Syria probably aiming to join a terrorist organisation.
