OUISTREHAM, FRANCE, 5-6 JUNE 2014

World leaders are to travel to the Normandy beaches in France in early June to attend events marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, history's largest amphibious invasion.

U.S. President Barack Obama, British Queen Elizabeth II, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are among the 15 leaders invited by French President Francois Hollande to take part in commemorations on 6 June, alongside surviving veterans.

The Allied landing in Normandy marked the beginning of a major offensive against Nazi Germany during World War II and the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe.
