Job Vacancy: Senior Producer, Programmes -  Al Jazeera English

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia


Al Jazeera English is seeking an experienced, motivated and energetic Senior Producer/Reporter to join the channel’s award-winning Asian current affairs programme 101 East.

The successful applicant will initiate, produce, report and direct half-hour current affairs programmes from across the Asia region, which maintain the high editorial, technical and legal/compliance standards of the Network.

The position is full time and is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The role requires excellent editorial and television production skills. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience as a senior current affairs television reporter/producer.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and research original story-telling ideas
  • Produce, report and direct compelling and informative 101 East investigative programs for broadcast and online
  • Work in a team environment to strict deadlines to the highest possible creative, professional and ethical standards
  • Lead and mentor teams (including Producers and production crews)
  • Carry out assignments in difficult and/or dangerous locations as required and with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ensure all programmes are delivered on time, within budget and in compliance with all relevant technical and legal standards.


Selection Criteria:
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in television production including long-form programming (essential)
  • Excellent understanding of visual and storytelling requirements needed to produce long-form television current affairs (essential)
  • Ability to work with a high degree of editorial independence (essential).
  • Experience in responding to breaking news and ability to cope with a high degree of pressure and quickly changing situations with flexibility, initiative, logistical skills and mature judgement.
  • Knowledge of and experience in new technology, social media and trends in current affairs television production.
  • Thorough knowledge of Ofcom regulations and legal dangers for broadcasters and publishers.
