The 74th anniversary celebrations commemorating the liberation of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz will take place on 27 January. The event will be attended by state officials and Holocaust survivors.

Until the liberation of the camp Nazi Germany exterminated at least 1.1 million people there, mainly Jews but also Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners and people of other nationalities. January 27 was also declared the International Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in a United Nations 2005 resolution.
