Today marks the eighth anniversary of the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi on 17 December 2010 in the central Tunisian town of Sidi Bouzid in protest at the confiscation by police of his vegetable cart. This act is considered by many as marking the single event that started the 'Arab Spring' uprisings across North Africa and the Middle East.
