Strong opinions for and against U.S. President Donald Trump will be on full display on the first Tuesday in November this year as voters head to the polls in the 2018 midterm elections.

Voting will take place in the middle of the Republican president's first term. As he prepares to hit the campaign trail for favored GOP candidates in the run-up to November 6, Trump himself is defiantly questioning the idea that, historically, the party that controls the White House suffers in the midterms.

The midterm elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018. All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested. Democrats are hoping to capitalize on an anti-Trump sentiment among their voters and to energize the number of female and minority voters. Republicans hope to maintain the strong showing made in the 2016 Presidential election and maintain control of both houses of Congress.
