VENEZUELAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Officials in Venezuela have set May 20 as the date for the country's presidential election, despite wide criticism that the early ballot won't be fair.

The United States and countries in Europe and Latin America have condemned a rush to hold the presidential vote, which traditionally has been held late in the year.

The Lima Group of nations says the election was not legitimately called by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, will not have international observers and won't be free, just, transparent and democratic.
