GERMANY COALITION CRISIS
BERLIN, GERMANY

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has signaled that she prefers a fresh election over trying to stay in power as part of a minority government.
Talks on forming a coalition government collapsed Sunday night, plunging Europe’s biggest economy into political uncertainty and raising the prospect of new elections. The free-market liberal FDP pulled out after four weeks of talks with Merkel's CDU/CSU bloc and the Greens. The leader of FDP, Christian Lindner, said there was "no basis of trust" between them.
