The Museum of II World War in Gdansk will finally open its doors at 10am on Thursday March 23rd. The museum, located in a building that has already became an icon of the city, tells the story of World War II by including all the nations involved in the conflict, with a particular focus on civilian suffering instead of military campaign.

The main exhibition covers over 5.000 m² with around 2.000 exhibits shown on it. It is the result of many years of work that has been conducted by the team of historians from the Museum of the Second World War.

Piotr Glinski, the culture minister of Poland’s conservative government created after the election in 2015, has criticized the museum’s expansive approach and says it should focus more on the Polish experience. The minister has called for the museum to merge with another museum, to oust the museum’s director and change the exhibition.
