Australia will travel to Ukraine in the first round of World Group II in Fed Cup 2017 by BNP Paribas.

The last time these two teams met was in the World Group play-off in 2011. Jarmila Wolfe came out firing for Australia winning both of her matches against Olga Savchuk 61 61 and Lesia Tsurenko 61 63 to give Australia a 2-1 lead in the tie. Olga Savchuk, after losing her first rubber, found form against Anastasia Rodionova to win 7(3)6 7(12)6 evening the tie at 2-2. In the decisive fifth rubber, Ukrainian pair Olga Savchuk and Lesia Tsurenko finished strong against Jarmilia Wolfe and Anastasia Rodionva winning 06 67(3) 36. Ukraine won the play-off 3-2.

These two teams have met three times in Fed Cup with Ukraine having the upper hand leading the series 2-1. Australia will be looking to even up the score with a win over Ukraine. But both nations will be desperate for a win in order to compete in World Group play-off ties.
