CONSISTORY OF NEW CARDINALS
CLOSING OF THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
ROME, ITALY
19-20 NOVEMBER 2016

The Pope will preside over a Consistory for 17 new Cardinals on 19 November and celebrate the Holy Mass for the closing of the Jubilee of Mercy on the morning of 20 November in Saint Peter's Basilica.

Pope Francis will hold a formal ceremony in Saint Peter’s Basilica in the morning of Saturday, 19 November, where he will elevate the new cardinals whose names were announced a few weeks ago in his Angelus prayer. The Pontiff said the group “expresses the universality of the church, which proclaims and witnesses to the Gospel of the Good News of the Mercy of God in every corner of the earth." On 20 November the Pope will celebrate the concluding Mass of the Jubilee with all the new cardinals in St Peter’s square and close the Holy door of the Basilica after nearly one year.
