RUSSIAN LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS

17-19 SEPTEMBER 2016

Fourteen parties have been registered to participate in Russia's Legislative elections on 18 September 2016. 450 seats in the lower house of Russia's Federal Assembly are at stake in the elections, which were moved forward from 4 December 2016.

The ruling party is currently United Russia, headed by Russia's Prime Minister Dmitriy Medvedev, with over half of the seats, followed by the Communist Party, A Just Russia and Vladimir Zhirinovsky's Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia.

All fourteen parties were allowed to submit lists of candidates without collecting signatures. Of the parties that were required to present a minimum of 200 000 signatures in order to participate, none were registered, due to various violations or because they had not submitted the necessary documents.

Among the participating parties are former Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov's People's Freedom Party and Grigory Yavlinsky's Yabloko.
