The Greek former finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, is due to launch a new pan-European left-wing political movement in Berlin on February 9th.

The Democracy in Europe Movement 2025, or DiEM25, aims at ending “fragmentation in Europe,” according to German media reports. Varoufakis announced that his intention is to push for “a third alternative” between the “cocoon of nation states” and European institutions, adding that he wants to show European voters that there is a third way between a return to the nation state and the “undemocratic structures” of today’s European institutions.
