Berlin, Germany, 11 - 21 February 2016

The countdown for the awards ceremony of the 66th BERLINALE is on: the Berlin international film festival is running unti 21 February 2016, with the expected distribution of Golden and Silver Bears on Saturday 20 evening.

The first major film festival in the calendar welcomed many movie stars on the red carpet, among them: George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton, Colin Firth, Jude Law, Emma Thompson and Kirsten Dunst. Three times academy award winner Meryl Streep presides over the jury, which will decide the distribution of awards among the 18 films in competition on Saturday. Among the favorites: German film "24 Weeks" of Anne Zohra Berrached, last Thomas Vinterberg movie "The Commune" set in Denmark in the seventies and Rafi Pitts' "Soy Nero".
In all, across the several sections of the Berlinale, almost 400 films will be shown, many of which explore basic human experiences: happiness and migration. Ever topical, refugees are at the heart of the festival, with initiatives such as a thousand free tickets distributed to asylum seekers.
