Former athlete Oscar Pistorius will be released from jail on 21 August 2015 after serving only 10 months of his five-year sentence for killing his girlfriend, the model Reeva Steenkamp. He will be moved to house arrest for the remainder of his sentence.
The former South African Paralympic athlete was found guilty of culpable homicide for shooting Steenkamp four times through his locked toilet door on Valentine's Day in 2013, but has always claimed that he believed her to be an intruder.
Under South African law, he is eligible to be released under conditions after serving one-sixth of his sentence, which is 10 months in his case.
