Poland will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the End of World War II during the three days of national celebrations. The Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski is organizing a special memorial for the EU leaders on May 8th in Gdansk. Gdansk is the city where World War II began with the shelling Polish military outpost on Westerplatte by the Germans on September 1st, 1939.

On May 6th and 7th the European Solidarity Center is organizing a conference and the temporary exhibition '45. The end of the war in 45 exhibits’.
The conference will be attended by a British historian Norman Davies, an American researcher Timothy Snyder, a Russian expert in the subject of the war and at the same time a member of the Polish-Russian Group for Difficult Issues Natalia Lebedeva and Ukrainian historian Andriy Portnov. German historians will be represented by a Deputy Director of the German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst Margot Blank and Stefan Troebst of the University of Leipzig.
