French President François Hollande will travel to Cuba on May 11, the first visit by a French head of state to the Latin American country, the Elysee Palace, the French presidential residence, “The visit of the president of the republic to Cuba on May 11 will constitute the first time a French head of state has traveled to that country,” said the French President’s Office in a communique. President Francois Hollande will travel to Cuba in May in the first such trip by a French head of state.
The visit comes as President Barack Obama is increasing U.S. ties with Cuba, and the Caribbean island is gradually opening up after decades of communist rule.

French President François Hollande will visit Cuba in May, the first visit by a French Head of State.
The visit comes as relations are beginning to improve between the United States and the government of Raúl Castro.
The European Union has also entered into negotiations with Havana aimed at normalizing relations.
