About 500 French soldiers who stayed in Afghanistan to train and support Afghan forces, and help run Kabul's airport, are scheduled to return home on 31 December 2014. French troops will handover control of Kabul airport to Turkish forces.
France was once one of the largest contributors to the NATO mission in Afghanistan.
