LITTLE HAVANA, MIAMI, USA | 17 DECEMBER - ONWARDS

After a half-century of Cold War acrimony, the United States and Cuba move to re-establish diplomatic relations and spark the flow of money and people across the narrow waters that separate their nations. The historic shift in U.S. policy follows more than a year of secret talks and marks an extraordinary use of President Barack Obama's executive powers.

Some Cuban exiles in Miami are outraged. Others are ecstatic that Obama has secretly arranged prisoner exchanges with Cuban leader Raul Castro as part of an effort to normalize relations.
